Panasonic has today announced a NEW UK smart British TV partnership with Freesat, the UK's FREE satellite television platform that has currently over 2  million subscribers in UK homes, and thousands more outside of the UK although some Freesat boxes and Freesat Televisions are not suitable in parts of Spain and France. This new UK Freesat TV deal will see Freesat's 'Freetime' catch-up TV service available in all new Panasonic VIERA smart TVs and most homes will receive their TV via satellite or through an aerial (DTT)

The Freetime service enables consumers to scroll back through their TV guide for the past seven days and includes access to all of the UK public service broadcasting on-demand services—BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5. In addition, consumers will receive daily programme recommendations.

Launched in October 2012, these Freetime boxes now account for over 43% of all Freesat set-top-box sales.

With many advertisements and promotions taking place along the Spanish Costa del Sol and many new start up Businesses popping up in the local Newspapers  many British Families have been tempted by "cheap" offers of FREE UK TV that later leave them feeling conned and cheated as the sellers are often trading off a mobile phone that will soon be thrown away and swapped for a new number and a new Company name.

Take Diane & Terry from San Pedro that responded to an advert seen in a local free paper that advertised "All the Sports, All the Movies BBC + ITV & More" Terry explained to us that after reading several News reports that everyone should get ready for THE BIG SWITCH OFF that he now thinking back stupidly handed over hard earned cash to a man in a English plated Mercedes in a car- park in Marbella only to find that what he had purchased was a cheap imported android box that had not been programed to allow access to anything other than some Russian content. 

After contacting the owners of this Blog in order to warn other of his experience Terry was pleasently suprised when we organised one of our tech savvy engineers to delete everything off of this box that he had been sold and then loaded XBMC that allows him to watch Filmon although in hindsight they could have done that with their PC so really it was €250 down the drain.

With Xmas almost upon us and with Terry's Family coming to stay with them over the Festive season Terry had seen the advertisement and agreed to purchase a IPTV box and remote control that turned out to be useless for watching British TV and to add insult to injury the remote control was not even compatible with the unit supplied by the supplier.


Terry told us that "I trusted this person to supply me with what we had agreed on" as with most purchases in Spain you need to be vigilant and always insist on a receipt and always make sure that the Company is SL registered or at least get an NIE number if it is a one man band.

It has been 3 weeks since Terry parted with his money and despite numerous calls and text messages so far all he has been told is that the person he dealt with has returned to the UK and that they know nothing about it, when Terry asked for the Company name they put the telephone down, he then approached the Newspaper where the advert was placed and it turns out the advert was paid for in cash and that a Lady from Benalmadena had placed the advert so Terry decided to place a denouncia against this Lady to get his money back, it now appears that the NIE number and the name are fictitious. 

Due to legal resons we are unable to name the persons responsible until the Police have investigate the matter although Terry says "I am not holding my breath"

NEVER HAND OVER CASH IN A CAR-PARK or MOTORWAY SERVICES

When looking at purchasing an IPTV box in Spain, we would recommend that you follow the following steps to GUARANTEE that you do not have any issue with your new IPTV BOX.

By insisting on a receipt or a factura you have proof of your purchase, and by using a SL registered Company you are able to insist on a CIF number that acts as both a Company registration number and the Companies VAT number (IVA) this proof of purchase not only acts as proof that you purchased your IPTV box from this supplier but also acts as Guarantee as all goods sold within the EU are now subject to a 24 months Manufacturers warranty by Law.

OK so lets assume that you turned on your TV and no longer have BBC1 or ITV and you have decided that you want to purchase an IPTV box what should you do? Well the first thing to insist on is that any Company that you approach should be able to offer not only a full installation of the IPTV box but also spend 10-15 minutes showing you how the box works as often some IPTV boxes are not as straight forward as using a SKY+HD box for example. When contacting an IPTV supplier NEVER agree to making any upfront payments and never handover any credit card details or make any type of payment until the IPTV box has been installed and you are totally satisfied with what you have been supplied and have checked that all of the channels that are important to you are working and that the picture is OK.

and gone tomorrow traders are looking to cash in on the situation and will be looking to pull every trick in the book so make sure you insist on seeing everything working in your home. You are entitled to ask any supplier for a couple of local recommendations of satisfied and happy existing customers so ask, if you are told that this is not possible try another supplier. Always make sure you know who you are dealing with, can the supplier e-mail you everything they just said over the telephone by e-mail so that everything is in writing? This is a great way of protecting yourself further as it is another piece of evidence that in addition to your proof of purchase also confirms what the purpose of the product is and confirms what the products features and capabilities are, this is particularly handy when you run in to issues and the product becomes "unfit for purpose" as the product cannot provided the services and or channels that where originally offered by the supplier. 

Be specific with the supplier and ask exactly what channels you will receive and who will you be receiving the channels from as some boxes really on streams that are provided by private individuals and or Companies that upload the content for FREE and then can close down without warning.

 As the Raspberry Pi craze sweeps the internet, you might have found yourself wanting to purchase the little computer to see what projects you can use it for. You may have thought to yourself that even if you can’t think of a nifty project, who cares, because the higher-end Model B is only $35. However, is it really that cheap when all is said and done?

I recently ordered my first Raspberry Pi. I could never figure out what to do with it, but have wanted one simply because it’s a cheap, intriguing little computer. While waiting for the delivery over the past few days, I began browsing through project ideas, which in turn led me to RasPi accessories. I bought a case — a Pibow — which I’ve always wanted more than the Raspberry Pi itself, and Pi requires a microUSB power cable, so I bought that as well. Now, my $35 Pi purchase is already 0ver $65, including shipping costs. That’s still affordable, but it got me thinking: If you wanted to build a proper computer from scratch using a Raspberry Pi, exactly how much would it cost in the end? For what is touted as the $25 (or $35) computer, the answer might surprise you.

The goal here is not to rely on parts you may have lying around the house. You might have all sorts of gear in the attic, but not everyone does. And a school or business that is buying multiple RasPis almost certainly doesn’t have enough displays, keyboards, power supplies, and WiFi dongles lying around.

Here’s what’s necessary:
•Raspberry Pi, Model B: $35. For tinkerers there is no reason to buy one of the $25 units when the $35 model is available.
•Pibow case: $20. The most popular case for the Pi.
•MicroUSB 5V power cable, at least 700mA: $5. You can find these pretty easily from Newegg or Amazon.
•USB keyboard and mouse: $15
•HDMI monitor: $120. Like when building any computer, the price skyrockets when you realize you need a monitor. You’ll likely want to take advantage of the RasPi’s HDMI port, and want a widescreen monitor. You can hunt around for a cheaper deal, but $120 is about average for a smallish LCD with HDMI.
•HDMI cable: $3. If you don’t care about brand, you can snag a gold-tipped HDMI cable for pretty cheap nowadays.
•SD card: $7. The Pi uses an SD card as its only storage device. You can get away with a 4GB card, so no need to spend too much.
•Ethernet cord: $6.
•Speakers: $12. This will get you some cheap Logitech speakers.


So, with everything you need to get a Raspberry Pi up and running, it’ll cost you $91 without an HDMI-capable monitor. With an HDMI monitor at an average price, it’ll cost you $211. With speakers, you’ll have to invest at least $223 for a rather modest computer system.

If you want to add some unnecessary, but ultimately useful pieces there are other components to consider. With a larger SD card, say a 32GB unit, you’ll have to spend another $20. Want WiFi? A USB dongle will cost around $12, but then you’ll be blocking one of the two precious USB ports, so you’ll need to add on the price of a USB hub and perhaps a stronger power supply. At that point, we’re already over $250 for a 700MHz computer with 512MB of RAM. With shipping costs, you’re potentially ramping the total up to around $300. I live in the US, and the Pi and Pibow alone added up to a little over $20 shipping.

For comparison, a brand new Samsung Chromebook will cost you $325, whereas an older one will cost you $249. Acer’s C7 Chromebook sells for just $199. At around $400, you can start looking into some decently powerful, name-brand laptops, such as a Lenovo G580 with a 2.4GHz Core i3 chip, 4GB RAM, and 500GB of storage.

If you happen to have most of the components lying around, including a monitor with HDMI, the Raspberry Pi will only cost you the $25 or $35 depending on the model, and a $10 case or so. Of course, you can bargain hunt and try your very best to stay below $100, but the monitor will still prove a tricky situation, with the cheapest we’ve seen (without too much hunting, to be fair) being this $89 Asus on Amazon.

So, while a very tiny $35 computer is a great deal, the price can quickly approach that of much more powerful machines. Granted, the Pi is intended as more of a project board than as a standard computer, but in most cases, the project is going to require extra parts, and those cost money.

Hollywood actor Bruce Willis recently appeared in an advert for SKY UK (BSKY) in the advert the prices quoted and the terms & conditions information have been deemed incorrect and the advert will no longer appear in its current format. The advertisement that featured Bruce walking in to a broadband call centre demanding to know why his movies would not stream correctly.

This advertisement was part of a series of advertisements that feature many different actors including Al Pacino who has only ever appeared in one other advert in his career and is rumoured to have been paid a fortune. 

The series of adverts with famous celebrities are the creation of advertising agency 76 LTD.

I wonder if Al now gets full SKY TV free of charge and has a special code to access SKY GO anywhere in the World.

Management from both SKY (BSKYB) and the BBC "British Broadcasting Corporation" are leading the way for a clear and concise protocol and system requirements in order to have an Industry standard for Ultra HD TV in the UK.     


With the European standards organisations help, a forum has been created for the discussion and co-ordination of phasing in ultra hd tv broadcasts to both the UK and Europe.     

The British ultra hd forum will be run by Andy Quested who is in charge of the BBC's HD & UHD TV and the head engineer Chris Johns from SKY UK (BSKYB).

This is really good news for residents on the Costa del Sol that fear the loss of UK TV in Spain as ULTRA HD TV is broadcasted using a much stronger signal so reception may well be possible on the Costa del Sol using one of the Ultra HD SKY Boxes.        

The UK UHD Forum will be co-chaired by Andy Quested, the head of technology for HD and UHDTV at the BBC, and Chris Johns, the chief engineer for broadcast strategy at British Sky Broadcasting.
The group will co-ordinate national requirements to enable interoperability and examine whether there is a requirement for an Ultra HD profile for the United Kingdom.

Russian Proton rocket explodes 2nd July 2013

Possible delay to "Losss of UK TV in Spain" Costa del Sol residents may have got a last minute pass as rocket explodes.

A Russian Proton rocket as used by Astra to launch satellites in to Space exploded shortly after take off yesterday, reports are suggesting that this may have a knock on effect and cause a delay in the launches of other communication satellites including possibly maybe Astra 2E that was due to be responsible for 100'000 British ex-pats to "loose their uk television" on the Costa Del Sol when it was planned to launch this month.

Without a doubt this rocket explosion will set back other launches and could see things set back by a month or two or possibly longer.
