SKY experiences slow down in new subscriptions but increase in subscription fees.
With
a slow down in new customers, SKY has surprised the market
by posting strong results with a 7% growth and 9.5% increase in profits. And
analysts have been surprised at the demand of “one demand” TV services as
consumers rush to embrace the new LED SMART TV technologies that allow the
viewer a far more interactive experience as many TV shows can be viewed on
demand. The on demand service has become a massive market
as people often with busy lifestyles want to watch there favourite TV shows at
a time that suits them and not the Broadcaster.
We
asked Jason Harding from www.mrskytv.com what
he thought of the latest increases in earnings “It does not surprise me as more
people realise that the best possible “all in one box” solution is without a
doubt SKY TV UK” he went on to say that “We have seen a massive increase in
people wishing to upgrade to the premium channels and activate on demand
services” with SKY UK posting income in excess of £5 Billion pounds and profits
of almost one million pounds it is no surprise that City analysts have been
taken by surprise by this news.
On demand
was a very important growth booster with almost 5 million average weekly on demand
downloads, an increase of 465% on the same time last year, and 3.2 million
movie rental transactions, up 33% on last year.
The
Sky Go the SKY TV online internet based TV service added 200'000 unique users during the quarter,
taking the total to 3.4 million. Sky Go Extra attracted 44,000 customers. Sky
Movies boasted more than 205 million on demand views over the last 12 months
and there were 1.6 million views of episodes from the first two seasons of Game
of Thrones boosting the figures for Sky’s on-demand internet and satellite on demand services following the launch of
the third season that has seen massive increases in viewers.
To help build the hype of “SKY TV ON
DEMAND” services SKY have promised customers that they will get to see major
new releases such as the widely anticipated “HANNIBAL” on SKY ATLANTIC on
demand up to 7 days before general release. SKY have enjoyed great success with
the HBO agreement that has provided so classic TV shows that appeal to a wide
audience.
